How to Manage Categories
Introduction
Organizing your Listings, Events, Classifieds, Articles, and Blog Modules into well-structured categories enhances user experience by making it easier for clients to find the products or services they need. eDirectory provides tools to help you create, edit, and manage these categories efficiently within the Site Manager.
In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to edit and manage your categories. If you are looking to add a new category, please refer to our separate guide on that process.
Editing a Category
To modify an existing category, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Site Manager Administration Panel and navigate to the Content Manager.
- Select the module that contains the category you want to edit.
- Click on Categories.
- Locate the category you wish to edit and click on the pencil icon.
- A pop-up window will appear. Click on Advanced Options.
- Under Advanced Options, you can add images, content, and configure SEO settings for your category. Once you have made your changes, click Save Changes.
Note: If you want the category to appear on the homepage, check the Featured box. The category will only be displayed if this option is selected and it is linked to an active listing.
Adding a Subcategory
You can also enhance organization by creating subcategories. Follow these steps:
- Log in to your Site Manager Administration Panel and go to Content Manager.
- Click on the module where you want to add a subcategory.
- Navigate to Categories.
- Find the category to which you want to add a subcategory and click the “+” icon.
- A pop-up window will appear. Enter a Title for your subcategory (e.g., “Culture”). If you are creating a subcategory, you can also select the Parent Category.
- If needed, add Advanced Information, including images, content, and SEO settings.
- Click Save Changes to finalize.
Note: Once a subcategory has been created, it cannot be moved to another parent category or category level.
Deleting a Category
If you need to remove a category, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Site Manager Administration Panel and go to Content Manager.
- Click on the module containing the category you wish to delete.
- Navigate to Categories.
- Locate the category and click the trash can icon.
Note: Deleted categories cannot be restored. Be sure before proceeding with deletion.
