The Tailored Map plugin for eDirectory provides an engaging way to showcase your listings by displaying them on an interactive map directly on your website. This article will guide you through the process of setting up and utilizing the Tailored Map plugin to enhance the visual appeal of your website.

Introduction

The Tailored Map plugin allows you to showcase your listings dynamically on a map, providing visitors with a visual representation of the geographic distribution of your listings. Pinned on the map, each listing is marked with a customizable icon, making it easy for users to explore and locate relevant businesses or services.

Getting Started

1. Accessing Tailored Placement Settings

To begin using the Tailored Map plugin, navigate to the Settings section. Go to General Settings and click on the Plugins tab.

2. Configuring Tailored Placement Settings

  • Look for the Tailored Placement Settings field.
  • Set the Map Zoom, Central Latitude and Longitude and save changes.

Note: If users have not consented to share their location, this configuration allows setting the center point and zoom for the map.

If users agree to share their location, the map will automatically be redirected to the user's location.

Adding Tailored Map to Your Page

After configuring the settings, follow these steps to add the Tailored Map to your page:

1. Go to Desing → Page Editor.

2. Access the page you would like to add the map widget.

3. Click on "Add a widget".

4. Locate the Tailored Map widget in the available widgets.

5. Click on "Save changes" at the top of the page.

6. Click on "View" at the top of the page to see how the map looks on the front end of the site.

7. Once you click on "View", you will be able to see the widget on the front page.

Note 1: Before rendering the maps, ensure you have your Google Maps Key in place. If you have added the map widget to a page, and it is not working, please, take the steps from this article to integrate Google Maps and display the map on the widget: How to activate Google Maps and Nearby Results APIs

Note 2: Depending on the map's zoom level, nearby listings will cluster together. Zooming in will separate them, providing a detailed view of each listing's precise location.

Important: The Tailored Map cannot be placed on detail pagesresults pages, or pages that already have other maps.

Customizing Map pins for Listings

Tailor the appearance of each point on the map by customizing the map pins for different listing categories:

1. Navigate to Content, click on Listings, then select Categories.

2. Hover your mouse over the desired category, and click on the edit button to modify the map pin.

3. Click on Advanced Options, and you'll find the area for changing the map pin image.

4. After configuring the desired pin for categories, the listings under these categories will be displayed with the configured pins in the map.

Reminder: As you explore the capabilities of our Tailored Map Plugin, we want to remind you that its full functionality relies on the integration of two crucial components: Google Maps integration and Nearby Results integration.
