The eDirectory system allows for the Site Manager to manually add categories and sub-categories to Listings, Events, Classifieds, Articles, and Blog Modules. Since each module is a stand-alone module, the Site Manager can have a unique set of categories and sub-categories for each module. 


Each module, aside from the Blog Module, allows for a maximum of 5 tiers in the categorical hierarchy. The blog module allows just one category tier.


This means you can have a structure similar to:


  • Grandfather Category
  • Parent Category
  • Child Category Level 1
  • Child Category Level 2
  • Child Category Level 3


For Listings, there are three ways to add a category on the Site Manager. The first one is by adding manually category by category (or in bulk), the second, is directly on the Listing Template and the third is from the Listing Edit Form. For the other modules, you can only add a new category/subcategory through the content manager area.


Please follow the following instructions to manually add a category:


1. Please log in to your Site Manager Administration Panel and go to Content Manager




2. Then, click the module you wish to add the category into


3. Next, go to Categories




4. If you want to add a category individually, click on “+ Create Category”. If you want to bulk add multiple categories, click on “Bulk Creator”




5. If you opted to add a single category individually, a Pop Up will open. You need to add the Title for your category (Example: “Culture”). If what you're adding is a subcategory, you can also select the Parent category


6. After that, please hit Save Changes




You can also add further information for your category by clicking "Advanced Options".




If you're adding categories for Listings, a second way to add category is through the Listing Templates. Please follow the following instructions:


1. Please log in to your Site Manager Administration Panel and go to Content Manager. At Content Manager, please, select “Listings”


2. Next, click on “Listings Templates”




3. Then, click on “+ Add Listing Template” or select one of the previously created Listing Templates




4. Next, click on "+ Create Category" on the "Edit Listing Template" page




5. A Pop Up will open. Next, write a Title for your category


6. Hit "Save Changes"




7. Next, click on “Browse”


8. Then, write the name of the category you just created, and when you find it, click on the “+”




9. At last, hit Save Changes




The third option for adding a Category to Listings is by the Listing Edit Form. Please, follow the step by step below:


1. Please log in to your Site Manager Administration Panel and go to Content Manager


2. Next, select the Listing you want to add the category to and click on “Edit”




3. Then, on the Editor Page, click at  “+ Create Category”




4. If you opted to add a single category individually, a Pop Up will open. You need to add the Title for your category (Example: “Culture”). If what you're adding is a subcategory, you can also select the Parent category.


5. Then, hit save changes




6. At last, on the Editor Page, please hit Save Changes
