If you are ready to make your domain change, please follow the step by step below.

To start, you already need to have the domain or subdomain that you’d like to use in your eDirectory. If you don't have your domain/subdomain yet, you can purchase it on a specialized website such as GoDaddy, Hostinger, Hostgator, or others.

If you already have your domain and have an email server connected to it, please find and take note of your MX information. You will need them in a later step. If you don't have an email connected to your domain or if you’d like to use a subdomain, this step can be skipped.

From now on, you’ll take different steps if you are using a domain or a subdomain.

  •  If you’d like to use a domain

1. The first step is send a message for our support team (support@edirectory.com) informing the domain name, they will create the DNS zone on our end and get everything ready for the next steps.

2. On the step 2, after our team reply to you and confirm the creation of the DNS zone, you can access your domain provider and switch DNS servers to our Cloudflare servers below:

gail.ns.cloudflare.com

ken.ns.cloudflare.com

The way to make this change is different depending on the domain provider.

Make sure that the change was made correctly and that the DNS will propagate. You can follow the propagation of the DNS through the website whatsmydns.net, adding your domain and changing the type of "A" to "NS". If the DNS is not pointed correctly or is not propagated, even with the domain change completed your website will not go live, so stay tuned.

3. After you switch the DNS server to our Cloudflare, send an email to support@edirectory.com requesting the domain changeThe change is not automatic, that is, without sending the email, the domain change will not be carried out. Don't forget to include in your email your current domain (the one you are using to access your eDirectory) and your permanent domain (the one you would like to change it to).

Don't forget to include the collected MX information in the email if you have an email connected to your domain.

For more information about MX records, check this Article: What is a MX record?

After sending the email to Support, you will soon receive a confirmation email that the change is being made. If your website is hosted on a shared server, the average time for the change to be made is up to 24 hours. If your site is hosted on a dedicated server, the change can take up to 48 hours. During that time, your site will be offline.

The number of Listings/Content on your site can also extend the time it takes for the domain change to be completed. In this case, you will be notified by e-mail used to make the request.

If you’d like to use a subdomain

If you want to use a sub-domain, you need to send an email to Support (support@edirectory.com) requesting a domain change. Support will respond to your email with the IP address of the Server where your website will be hosted so that you can point your A Record.

After pointing A Record, reply to the Support email by sending your current domain (the one you are using to access your eDirectory) and your permanent domain (the one you would like to exchange for).
